Questions
What return rate should I use?
Indian large-cap mutual funds have historically delivered 11-14% CAGR over 10+ year periods. Mid-caps 14-18%. Use 10-12% for a conservative estimate, 12-15% for moderate. Markets are not guaranteed.
What is CAGR?
Compound Annual Growth Rate — the rate at which an investment grows year over year if returns were compounded annually. A ₹1L investment growing to ₹3.1L in 10 years = ~12% CAGR.
Does this account for inflation?
No — this shows nominal returns. For real purchasing power, subtract 5-6% inflation from your expected return rate. A 12% nominal return is roughly 6-7% in real terms.
